About The Velodrome

San Diego Velodrome

The San Diego Velodrome is an outdoor, asphalt 333.33 meter track. There is a warm-up circle and the apron is in good condition. The concrete pad in the infield will likely not be big enough to accommodate everyone. Riders are encouraged to bring some ground cover in case they must setup off the concrete. There is no tunnel or bridge that crosses the track. During a race no one will be allowed to cross the track for any reason. There will be portapotties in the infield, so racers should do their best to bring everything they need to the infield before racing starts. (There maybe opportunity to cross the track
between races, which will be determined by crossing guards and the officials.)There is hose water in the infield.

Mediterranean Climate
The best thing the velodrome has going for it is location & weather. Most mornings will start off overcast, but that usually burns off by 10 or 11am. Winds usually pick up from the west in the mid-afternoon, but die down as the sun sets. We recommend that even if the morning session starts off cloudy, to apply sunscreen anyway. Even when it’s cloudy the harmful UV rays will still give you a sunburn. Also, if the clouds burn off mid-morning session, you will not have to remember to do it while you’re in race-mode.
