The Annual Boulevard Road Race is (usually) held on the first Saturday of every February in the Boulevard/Campo/Live Oak Springs area of east county San Diego. Be warned that this year due to peculiarities of the schedule, Boulevard will be the last Saturday in January. Boulevard is one of the first road races for the Southern California bicycle racing season. It offers a challenging 22-mile loop with rolling hills and almost 1500 ft of elevation gain per lap.
This year, we are looking to raise prize money for the women’s categories in order to equalize it with the men’s categories. We are proud to say that, because of a generous $500 donation from alumnus, Daniel Zitter, the “Women’s 3/4&35+ p/b Daniel Zitter, UCSD Alumnus” has a prize of $500 paid out 6 deep.
Another change that we will observe this year will be the elimination of collegiate categories meaning that non-collegiate category races instead.
Weather in recent years has been excellent (but chilly), yielding an astounding, annual rider turnout of over six-hundred. Each year, UCSD Cycling and volunteers from the local cycling community put on a successful race to kick off the collegiate racing season.
